SSA,
This is to apprise our general sikh community far and wide that the Semiquincentennial (250th anniversary) of the martyrdom of our most revered Sikh martyr, Baba Deep Singh, falls on 11 Nov 2007. Born on 26 Jan 1682, Baba Deep Singh was a saint-soldier-scholar in the glorious tradition of Guru Gobind Singh who had personally schooled him in scriptures and warfare. He fell fighting on 11 Nov 1757 at the age of 75 years near Amritsar while leading a heavily outnumbered Sikh army against an Afghan army that had occupied and desecrated Harmandir Sahib. The circumstances of his martyrdom are unique and have no parallel since, mortally wounded in the neck, he fought supporting his head with one hand as he wielded his mighty broadsword with the other.
It would, indeed, be befitting to observe his martyrdom day with appropriate publicity and global functions that should serve to invite worldwide media attention to the greatness of his personality, his sacrifice, and his unique martyrdom.
Wahe Guruji ka Khalsa Wahe Guruji ki Fateh,
